The City and the Storm Glossary

Actare: a weapon that fires energy projectiles, often fueled by the user’s Lamis, but can also be utilized with a self-contained power source with reduced functionality

Agmen: the Vox military, those belonging to this specific designation reside outside of cities and respond to the aid of the Esidio (see Esidio Guards) when called

Alfarons: The faction with the largest population and the most proud. This faction uses the most Tech and leads advancements every cycle in Tech research

Anam: The last mansii (see Mansii) in a Vox cycle (see Sun Cycle) and the title of the sixth member of the Council

Anro: A multi-functional device designed specifically for the Datum (see Datum)

Arba: The fourth mansii in the Vox cycle and the title of the fourth member of the Council

Arvos: small portable, computer-like devices that are able to connect to a mainframe in a house or the main information network of a city

Balons: the second most populous faction in the Vox Nation, holds strongly to Tech usage but are less dependent on technology

Beasts: a general term for animals that the Vox people believe to be pests, often untamed animals from natural areas, usually meant as a derogatory term

Caro: carnivorous animal, feeds off the Lamis from the flesh of others

Center or City-Center: similar to a square, a place for people to meet, often a place where the entrance to buildings are

City School: A school held within every city to instruct children in the history and culture of the nation and the basics of each specific skill they will pursue at an Etero

City Visa: A document indicating a person has permission to reside within a city for a temporary stay as a visitor or worker

Council Representative: a citizen appointed to a Council member and speaks on their behalf to the people, appointed every five cycles

Curator: a city’s expert on Lamis development of children, manages and oversees city dothyris (see Dothyris)

Cycle or Sun Cycle: a length of time equal to six mansiis (see Mansii), six mansiis complete a Sun Cycle or Cycle

Datum: a term given to the boys who served during the storm in the five hundredth and eighteenth cycle of the Council

Dothyri: An expert on Lamis, subject to the Curator, see Curator, often presides over the Lamis health of adults

Epis City: The capital of the Vox Nation, home of the Faction’s leadership, the Council

Esidio Guards: men belonging to the Agmen military who are positioned within cities, acting as peacekeepers and protectors, often wear no uniforms or hide their uniforms to remain discreet. They are the only Vox allowed to carry weapons on city ground

Etero: A school that operates for six cycles, training children in specific skills, so they may return to cities and serve the Council. Eteros are often near cities that support them and provide non-school opportunities for students

Exan Tech: Tech that is  no longer used, put out of service

Generator: a device that processes raw Lamis energy in order to be distributed to the appropriate places that require power to operate, receives raw Lamis from natural, underground caverns

Gradu: herbivore animal, feeds off the Lamis in plants and other ground sources of food

Haur: a part of Tech that allows the use of a person’s energy to power systems

Isa: the first mansii in a Vox cycle and the title of the first member of the Council

Kaz: the third mansii in a Vox cycle and the title of the third Council member

Lamis-5: the designation for Lamis energy in its raw form, most often found in underground deposits, volatile in its raw form 

Lamis: a unique energy that can power all forms of Tech, but also is found within every member of the Vox Nation, animals, and plants 

The Linam: The building used as the central area for the preparation of the Datum (see Datum) for their time out during the storm

LiorTech: Tech that is used to enhance a person’s natural abilities or replace missing limbs or other body parts, this Tech is powered by the person's Lamis

Mansii: the six separating marks during the cycle (see Cycle) and are defined by 90 solpaes (see Solpae) or 50 in the case of Kaz. 

Novitae: name stricken from Vox records

Operator: a person who runs a Volant or Vehere (see Volant and Vehere) and is often designated to a certain person of high status to move them around the city

Ora: the separating mark within a mansii comprising 10 solpaes (see Solpae)

Pak: the fifth mansii in a Vox cycle, and the title of the fifth member of the Council

People’s Representative: a citizen appointed to address the Council on behalf of the people with no connection to the Council and can bring the people’s needs and desires to the leadership of the Faction, travels to other cities to meet with City Representatives (see City Representatives)

Perii: an expert in Tech, working in the field under the orders of the Tatem (see Tatem) and will sometimes assist Tech Specialists (see Tech Specialist) in teaching assignments in city schools

The Prava Council: also known as The Council, a group of six men, led by Giovanni, who are replaced every five cycles. Members wear masks in public and have no identity outside of their titles

Redlander: inhabitants of the Red Plains. These people have no Lamis, reject all Tech, and are considered abominations by most Nation citizens

Rotam: a manual-powered vehicle that utilizes small amounts of Lamis to ease the movement

Sofera: animals tamed by Vox members, these animals feed off the residual energy of their owner providing physical relief from an excess of energy

Solpae: the full cycle of the moon shifting through the sky, covering the sun, then uncovering it and is the separating mark within an Ora (see Ora). Also referred to as a ‘sol’ or ‘pae’ for short, a twenty-nine hour period

Sorbe: a powerful, natural storm that drains Lamis from people or machinery to sustain itself

Tatem: The title for the overseer of Periis (see Perii) and Tech specialists (see Tech Specialist) in a given city

Tech: a general term used for machinery that uses Lamis to be powered, can be on a person and enhance certain attributes  (see LiorTech) or can be a transport, ex. A Volant is a piece of Tech

Tech Specialist: those designated with the responsibility of teaching school age children about Tech in cities

Teg Bed: a cocoon-like bed for sleeping outdoors without any cover. Fits tightly to the sleep to trap warmth. 

Tosa: The second mansii in a Vox cycle and the title of the second member of the Council

Veccos: the least populous of the factions within the Vox Nation and the most liberal in holding to the normal uses of Tech, are more curious to the uses of Lamis without Tech, often hated by the Alfarons for their lack of appreciation for technology

Vehere: large transports (see Volants) that are specifically designed to carry large cargo, not people

Velare: a small, portable light with a self-contained power source

Volant: transports that travel via hover pads, vessels that carry people or supplies, capable of traveling along predetermined paths or along hillsides for short periods

Vox Nation: a nation which uses focuses on Tech as a part of their culture. The Nation is split into three factions, Alfarons, Balons, and Veccos (see Alfarons; Balons; Veccos)
